From catwalk star to Bond girl fame….and right back again!
Tania was born in Blackpool in 1941 and after attending school, started a modeling career. She was initially screen tested for the role of Tatiana in “From Russia With Love” but her accent went against her and the role went with it. However, Cubby Broccoli kept her in mind when casting for “Goldfinger” and she was awarded the part of Tilly Masterson, one of an ill fated pair of sisters.
I landed the role as Tilly Masterson in “Goldfinger” after someone sent a photo of me to Cubby Broccoli. I believe it was a picture taken by Henry Clark for Vogue and shows me lying on some rocks in a bikini.
Tilly is out for revenge against Goldfinger for the death of her sister Jill. However her role in the film is comparatively short lived as she is herself killed by henchman OddJob with his famous steel edged bowler hat.
Tania was initially unsure of what she was doing on set but found the cast and crew to be supportive and helpful and has fond memories of the shooting.
After Goldfinger, she decided that acting was not for her as she could make twice as much money for less work by modeling and hated the restrictions that had been imposed her during the production and promotion of the movie. She went on to have a successful modeling career before retiring and now lives happily in England with her second husband.
Sean was wonderful to work with a complete professional, humorous, polite and above all remarkably generous to work with.
