Of all the spectacular James Bond gadgets probably Daggers Shoes have something unique that can stand out from others. The uniqueness lies in it’s simple but deadly application.
The dagger shoe had a hidden blade inside it and would pop out of the front of the shoe. Anyway, who could ever imagine that the guy who is kicking can turn his shoes into dagger? Well, that happened in From Russia With Love, the 1963 Bond movie.
The dagger shoe is exceptional in another sense; James Bond himself did not wear it, rather it was used to kill him. And unlike other films the gadget did not came from the genius Q. The terrorist organization SPECTRE invented it and the gorgeous villain Rosa Klebb wore that stunning thingamajig. ‘From Russia With Love’ was a continuation of Dr No where Bond managed to kill Dr. No and his criminal organization SPECTRE was desperately looking to avenge the assassination. Ian Fleming introduced the deadly crime syndicate in his 1961 novel ‘Thunderball’. It was a small group of criminals in the first place but soon became a gigantic international organization with its training base in an island.
The girl, Rosa Klebb, who wore the shoes, was a former member of the feared Russian counter intelligence services named SMERSH. But later on she became a member of SPECTRE and was assigned to kill Bond. Lotte Lenya portrayed the character and she became an icon for the dagger shoe. Though James Bond fans must remember that she was not only the one who wore that shoe. Another SPECTRE agent Morzeny also used that gadget to kill Kronsteen. Rosa used that shoe only at the concluding scene of the film.
Bond rescued Romanova and together they booked a hotel in Venice. Rosa appeared there in a maid’s disguise and hold Bond at gunpoint. After Romanova knocked away the gun, she relied on that unique gadget and used poisoned blade to get rid of Bond. After a brief combat, Romanova shoot Rosa dead.
