If Patrick McGoohan hadn’t turned down the role of James Bond, then Sean Connery’s life would have been very different. He would never have been voted “The sexiest man alive” nor “The greatest living Scotsman”, let alone “The thinking woman’s golfer” (Okay, we made that one up).

James Bond’s 2nd Movie, From Russia With Love, is based on the Ian Fleming’s novel with the same name. Thy optioned Fleming’s novel “From Russia with Love” mainly because John F. Kennedy had named it as being one of his favourite books and production started in 1963.

As is often the case with the first in a long running series of films, Dr No seems half formed as a Bond movie though is a great spy thriller in itself, defining the genre for the 60s. Sean Connery was plucked from relative obscurity to star as Bond, after “Danger Man” star Patrick McGoohan turned the role down.
